Diesel engines: prices, engine codes, fitment and freight

How much does a replacement diesel engine cost?

A replacement diesel engine from Power Engines costs $1,849 to $4,999, with a median of $2,349. There are nine diesel assemblies in stock right now covering 39 units across 2.4L, 2.5L, 2.8L, 3.0L and 5.2L four-cylinder diesels. Every diesel assembly currently in stock is catalogued as a new unit, and no diesel engine we sell carries a core charge — you keep your old block instead of paying a deposit to get it back.

The line covers three buyer types: Isuzu commercial trucks (NPR, NQR, NRR), import diesel pickups and 4x4s (Hilux, 4Runner, Montero, Pajero, Delica, Navara, NP300, Trooper, Bighorn, Rodeo, Frontera), and light industrial applications. If you are replacing a gasoline engine instead, start at 4-cylinder engines or 6-cylinder engines.

Isuzu commercial diesel engines: 4HK1-TC, 4JB1 and 4JB1-T

The 4HK1-TC 5.2L turbo diesel is the engine most Isuzu box-truck operators call us about. It is a four-cylinder commercial diesel fitted to the 2007–2009 NPR, NQR and NRR cab-over chassis, and it is the engine that keeps a delivery truck earning instead of sitting on a lift. Price is $4,999 with three units on the shelf.

For the older Isuzu 4x4 and light-commercial platforms we stock the 2.8L 4JB1 family in two forms: the naturally aspirated 4JB1 and the turbocharged 4JB1-T, both $2,899. Between them they cover Trooper, Bighorn, Jackaroo, Rodeo, Mu, Wizard, Holden and the Opel and Vauxhall Frontera, plus the Elf light truck. The 4JB1 also turns up in loaders, tractors and generator sets, so check the plate on your unit before assuming it is an automotive application.

Fleet and repair-shop buyers should look at our B2B and dealer programme, and the wider truck and commercial engines range for gasoline platforms. Everything Isuzu we carry sits in the Isuzu engines collection.

Toyota diesel engines: 2L-TE 2.4L and 1KZ-TE 3.0L

Two Toyota diesels sit in this catalogue. The 2L-TE 2.4L turbo diesel is in stock at $1,849 in both a Hilux and a 4Runner listing. The 1KZ-TE 3.0L turbo diesel for the 4Runner KZN130L and the Hilux Surf KZN130, KZN165 and KZN185 is currently out of stock at $1,949 — call 877-900-2695 to be told when the next container lands.

The 2L-TE and the 1KZ-TE are not interchangeable. They differ in displacement, block, injection pump and mounting, and a Hilux of the same model year could leave the factory with either one depending on market. Read the engine code stamped on the block rather than working from the model year. Our Hilux Surf engine replacement guide walks through the removal sequence, and the rest of the Toyota range is in Toyota engines.

Mitsubishi 4D56T 2.5L turbo diesel: Montero, Pajero and Delica

The 4D56T is our deepest diesel holding at 16 units across two listings, both $1,849: one for the 1982–2006 Montero and Pajero and one for the Delica Van. This is a 2.5L four-cylinder turbo diesel with a long production run, which is exactly why owners of 20-year-old Monteros can still put a new block in rather than write the truck off.

Because the 4D56 ran for two decades there are meaningful differences between early and late units in injection, intercooling and accessory mounting. Confirm the code on your own engine before ordering. Step-by-step removal notes are in our Montero and Pajero engine replacement guide and the Delica Van engine replacement guide. Everything Mitsubishi is in Mitsubishi engines.

Nissan YD25 2.5L turbo diesel: Navara and NP300

The YD25 2.5L turbo diesel is in stock at $2,349 with five units on each of two listings, one for the Navara and one for the NP300. Both are new assemblies. The YD25 spans several generations of Nissan pickup with variations in common-rail versus older injection systems, so the engine code and the VIN engine digit both matter here. See Nissan engines for the rest of that catalogue.

Diesel engines currently out of stock

Three diesel listings are live on the site but cannot be ordered today. We are showing them so you are not left guessing:

If one of these is the engine you need, call 877-900-2695 or use the contact form and we will tell you where it sits in the incoming schedule.

What arrives on the pallet: a bare long block

Diesel engines ship as bare long blocks. Expect very little in the way of external accessories — sometimes a valve cover, timing cover or oil pan, and nothing more. Your turbocharger, injection pump, injectors, manifolds, sensors, alternator, starter, flywheel and brackets carry over from the engine you are removing, so budget for inspecting and reusing those parts. On a diesel this matters more than on a gasoline swap: a tired injection pump or a failed turbo bolted onto a new block will make a healthy engine look sick.

Full detail is on our FAQ page, and why shop with us explains how we source stock.

Confirm the engine code before you order

Displacement alone does not identify a diesel engine. Two engines of the same litre figure in the same nameplate can be entirely different castings — the 2.4L 2L-TE and the 3.0L 1KZ-TE both sat in Hilux variants, and 4JB1 and 4JJ1 both sat in Isuzu light trucks. Before ordering, confirm all five of these:

  1. Year, make and model of the vehicle
  2. Displacement in litres
  3. The engine code stamped on the block, not the code printed in a parts catalogue
  4. The engine digit in your VIN
  5. Whether your unit is turbocharged or naturally aspirated

Then confirm the match with us on 877-900-2695 before you pay. Our find your engine tool narrows the catalogue by vehicle, but a phone confirmation is what protects you on a heavy freight item that is expensive to send back.

Warranty, and no core charge

Every diesel engine carries a 6-month warranty from the date of delivery against defects in manufacturing of internal lubricated parts, on the condition that it is installed by an ASE-certified shop within a strict 30-day installation window and used under normal driving conditions. Covered parts include pistons, piston pins and rings, crankshaft and main bearings, connecting rods and rod bearings, camshaft bearings, intake and exhaust valves, valve springs, push rods, rocker arms and rocker arm shafts. Covers, seals and gaskets are not warranted, and racing or hard-load use voids the cover. The block and heads are covered only where damaged by a covered part. Read the full warranty policy before installation.

There is no core charge on any engine we sell. Jasper, Powertrain Products, S&J and Fraser all hold a core deposit against the return of your old unit; we do not. Your old block stays with you, and there is no deposit to claim back.

Local delivery is free within 30 miles of the warehouse inside New Jersey, and we also deliver into northern New Jersey and the NYC area. Returns run 30 days with a 20% restocking fee on an unboxed engine — see the refund policy.

Buying a diesel engine for a box truck or a work fleet

A stopped Isuzu NPR costs a delivery business money every day it is down, which is why the 4HK1-TC gets ordered on the phone rather than researched for a week. Two things speed that up: a commercial delivery address with a dock or forklift takes the cheapest freight rate on the table above, and confirming the engine code with us in advance removes the single most common cause of a return. If you run more than one truck, ask about the dealer and fleet programme when you call.

Diagnosing before you commit to a replacement is often the cheaper move. Our troubleshooting library covers the failures that most often end in a new block, including Duramax 6.6L blown head gasket and Kubota V2203 turbo failure. Industrial units sit in Kubota engines.

Diesel engine FAQ

Are these diesel engines new or remanufactured?

Is there a core charge on a diesel engine?

No. There is no core charge on any engine Power Engines sells, diesel included.

Does the engine come with the turbocharger and injection pump?

No. Diesel engines ship as bare long blocks. Plan on reusing your turbocharger, injection pump, injectors, manifolds and sensors, and inspect them before installation.

How long is the warranty on a diesel engine?

Six months from the date of delivery, covering internal lubricated parts, with a strict 30-day installation window and installation by an ASE-certified shop. Full terms are on the warranty page.

Can I collect the engine myself?

Yes. Warehouse pickup at 55 Thomas Rd N, Hawthorne, NJ 07506 is free, Monday to Friday 8am–5pm ET.

Do you have diesel engines that are not listed here?

Stock moves. If the engine code you need is not on this page, call 877-900-2695 — some units are in transit and not yet published, and three listed diesels are awaiting restock.
